September 2025 Update

Hello from rainy Thailand!

First of all, thank you so very much for your donations for the children of Sarnelli! We really appreciate your kindness and interest in the lives of these lovable little runts. You won’t get any letters of thanks for a while, although they are all written and ready to send out. I don’t understand it all, but it has to do with tariffs the Americans dropped on Thailand. We hope the stoppage is temporary.

We have recently taken in a little guy,  not yet 2 years old, with spina bifida. He has joined our little group of five at the Sharon Houminer House.  I was told that he will always be crippled. He is a nice little guy, who cried bitterly for a few days. Our housemothers did a great job comforting him and now he is smiling and happy.

Recently, a little guy I will call Rambo broke his femur from a fall. He came to us several years ago, with his half -sister, delivered by the police. The cops told us they were born on the Cambodian border and shared the sane Chinese father, but had different mothers. Rambo and his sister whom I will call Molly were the same age. The police told us they were conceived by this Chinese guy and women they hired to carry the children for a fee. The were to be sold in China for body parts. The cops were using DNA to identify the other children’ mothers. Since these two were deemed abandoned, we got them. Both were incredibly cute but terribly fearful. Each of them picked out a house mother and clung to them all day. In time, their terror faded away, and they settled in. When they first came, word had it that remnants of the gang were looking for them, so some villagers were armed and guarded the House of Hope (where the two were staying). Now they are in kindergarten and as normal as one could hope for. We never found out if the police found any other children or gangs selling babies.

Right now, Brian and Kate are in Ireland visiting family, our volunteers Ben and Angelique are in Holland, and our pastor is in the U.S.A. for 10 months, so I am a committee of one. Actually, I have an efficient and hard working Thai staff, so all I have to do is sit around and look important.

Again, thank you for your kindness and interest in the children, and God bless you.

Fr. Mike, the children and staff of Sarnelli House
